Mindset Education - Not a list of dos and don’ts
Every student at Wecan Academy takes Mindset Education alongside their course. It teaches no rules to follow. It opens the world of the heart — the thoughts and assumptions underneath what we choose — through three principles: deep thinking, self-control and exchange.

Deep Thinking
Most education tells you what to do and what not to do. Mind Education does neither. It asks a different question: what is actually moving you?
Behind every choice sits a thought, and behind that thought sits something we accepted long ago without examining it — a fear, a comparison, something someone once said about us. This is the world of the heart: unseen, rarely discussed, and the real author of how we live.
Deep thinking is the practice of tracing a decision back to its source instead of stopping at the feeling. Students learn to tell the difference between what is true and what they have simply assumed — about a subject, about other people, about themselves.
What students work on
- The world of the heart
- Thought before action
- Assumptions and prejudice
- Self-awareness
- Facing failure
- Purpose

Self-Control
Self-control here is not gritting your teeth and holding on. Willpower runs out. Mind Education takes a different route: you cannot be dragged by something you can see.
Anger, discouragement, the urge to give up — students learn to name what is pulling them and where it is pulling them, and discover that a feeling is a signal, not an instruction. The reaction stops being automatic.
That is what carries a student through a hard week of training, a disagreement with a workmate, or the long stretch between starting something and finishing it. Competence guided by character.
Mindset Education taught me to control my reactions and stay focused — that changed my studies, my work and my relationships.

Exchange
A heart does not open by being lectured at. It opens when someone speaks honestly and someone else genuinely listens. Exchange is that practice, and it is the part students find hardest and remember longest.
In mind presentations students put their own experience into words in front of their peers — the failure, the fear, the thing they had never said aloud. What was carried alone stops being carried alone.
Together, deep thinking, self-control and exchange are the three principles at the centre of IYF’s Mind Education. They are not rules to obey; they are how a person’s thinking changes.
How it is taught
- Mind lectures. The core of the programme: sessions that open the world of the heart through real cases rather than theory. Mind lectures are the cornerstone of every IYF initiative worldwide.
- Mind presentations. Students speak about their own hearts in front of their peers — the point at which the ideas stop being abstract.
- Alongside every course. Whether you study programming, plumbing, catering or graphic design, Mindset Education runs beside the technical training, not instead of it.
Where it comes from
Mind Education grew out of more than 55 years of counselling by IYF founder Pastor Ock Soo Park — thousands of conversations with people of every background, distilled into a curriculum rather than a set of rules. It is now taught through IYF branches in over 80 countries, and has been taken up by schools, colleges, governments and NGOs.
Where most character curricula work on repairing thoughts and emotions, Mind Education works further back — on the blueprint underneath them. Its textbook, Navigating the Heart: Who is Dragging You?, is used in high schools, colleges and trade schools, and gives the programme its central question.
